I want to write a poem as I ride on the bus
Some simple facts let's not make a fuss
Today's my daughter's 18th birthday
The journey so far well what to say.
When she entered the world i could hardly believe my heart
Such feelings I’d not known until her start
& the 18 years have gone so fast
Everyone's opinion differs a little about the past.
I know I’ve always loved her & done my best
That’s all you can do you have to trust the rest
I’ve loved being her dad & her brothers too
They’re both teenagers still so much to learn give & do.
We’re a funny family but we get on by
The kids have always been supported we have a strong tie
Now the little one has become an adult
The world’s in her hands she’ll create her own result.
I know my children are in great hands
The universe promised me through the music & bands
The infinite sky wraps them both in its arms
& keeps them away from anything that harms.
I’m pleased with the birthday pressie that I got her
Not what she asked for but hopefully better
The gift has meaning & a conveys a message
There’s a big bright smile lighting up her life’s passage.
Guess the rhymes nearly written I could give her a copy
Write it in a card or is that a bit soppy
Life feels different today having an adult child
The weathers fine it’s reasonably mild.
My journey to where I’m going is almost up
Remember the day I bought them a pup
Happy Birthday Miss Ela I love you more than words can say
Wishing you an awesome adulthood starting today x
